Annie Murphree

October 9, 1934 — May 22, 2017

Annie Ruth Smith Murphree, age 82, of the Longview Community, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on the evening of Monday, May 22, 2017 in Shelbyville. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and prayer warrior, Annie Ruth was a native of Bedford County and grew up in the Unionville community. She is predeceased by her parents, John Franklin Smith and Eula Virginia Adcock Smith. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles Slaydon Murphree, son and daughter-in-law Charles Steven and Lisa Kay Murphree, Sr. of Murfreesboro, daughter and son-in-law Virginia Gwen and Larry Allen Lane of Riceville, grandchildren Lindsey (John) Lane Witten of Elizabethtown, KY, Kevin Anderson Lane of Riceville, Charles Steven (Kelsey) Murphree, Jr. of Rockvale, Melissa Rene Murphree, Daniel Ryan Murphree and Anna Marie Murphree of Murfreesboro, and great-grandchildren Melody Ruth Witten and Madelyn Grace Witten.

Mrs. Murphree was a 1952 graduate of Community School in Unionville, received a B.S. in Home Economics from Middle Tennessee State College in 1955 and a M.S. in Education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1986. She was a gifted educator, retiring from Community School after 30 years. She also served as a Home Extension agent in Hickman County where she met Charles. Mrs. Murphree was an active member of Longview Baptist Church.

Visitation with family members will be Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Osterhaus officiating. Burial will follow in Pressgrove Cemetery near Unionville.
