Walter W. Ogilvie, Jr., age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, March 18, 2017. He was born on December 12, 1930 in his childhood home in College Grove, Tennessee to Walter and Kathleen Ogilvie as the third of four children. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Tennessee in 1953 and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1957. He always considered himself blessed to be married to Anita Rodgers Ogilvie (in 1958) for 58 years, with whom he raised five children. In addition to obtaining his C.P.A. license, he had an impactful and accomplished career in the banking industry for over 30 years, when he retired in 1990 as the Chief Financial Officer and Vice-Chairman of Bank One, Indianapolis. In addition to maintaining a cattle farming operation on their property, Walter and Anita went on to establish and operate the beautiful ‘Peacock Hill Country Inn’ in the "Flat Creek" community of College Grove, Tennessee for over ten years.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Musgrave and brother, William Harris Ogilvie.

Walter was a kind and generous man. He was a hard worker who was seen as a visionary in the banking industry. Although he liked working on the farm as much as with numbers, he especially loved spending time with family, his thoroughbred horses, and dog, Isabella. He possessed a gentle spirit and a quiet, soft spoken manner. He learned by listening. If you were lucky, you got a glimpse of his perfectly timed humor and wry smile. He is survived by his wife, Anita Ogilvie (Franklin, TN), and their five children; Suzanne Harlan (Brownsburg, IN), Angi Stueve (Indianapolis, IN), Walt Ogilvie III (Colorado Springs, CO), Rod Ogilvie (Wheaton, IL), Nan Ogilvie (Franklin, TN); his brother, James F. ‘Jim’ Ogilvie (Franklin, TN); eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

An open visitation will be held at Lawrence Funeral Home, 203 South Horton Parkway, Chapel Hill, Tennessee on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. A private ‘celebration of life’ for the family will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Williamson County 4-H (www.tn4hfoundation.org).
