Eula Smith

October 14, 1914 — January 29, 2013

Eula Virginia Adcock Smith, 98, Shelbyville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at the Carriage House Inn. She was a native of Bedford County and the oldest member of North Fork Baptist Church. Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eula was a homemaker and seamstress at the farm in Unionville where she and her husband Frank lived for over 50 years. She attended Community School in Unionville through the 11th grade before consenting to marry Frank just before the Great Depression began. Her talents of sewing, quilting, crocheting and gardening were well known in the community. She could study a complex pattern in a store or catalog then return home and reproduce it from memory. Eula was known as a hard worker, resourceful person and generous giver. She worked at Sunlite Manufacturing in Shelbyville for three years during the 1950s to help pay for her daughter's college tuition.


Eula was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Franklin Smith; her parents, Archie Clarence and Sarah Guynnie Dickens Adcock; her brother, Robert Herschel Adcock; and her sister, Mildred Lorene Haskins.


She is survived by her daughter, Annie Ruth Murphree and husband, Charles, of Unionville; two grandchildren, Virginia Gwen Murphree Lane and husband, Larry, of Riceville and Charles Steven Murphree, Sr. and wife, Kay, of Murfreesboro; six great-grandchildren, Lindsey Catherine Lane Witten and husband, John, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; Kevin Anderson Lane, Riceville; and Charles Steven Murphree, Jr., Melissa Rene Murphree, Daniel Ryan Murphree and Anna Marie Murphree, of Murfreesboro.


A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. of Friday, February 1, 2013, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill, with Rob McKamey and great-grandson Kevin Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Pressgrove Cemetery with Steve Murphree, Larry Lane, John Witten, Steven Murphree, Daniel Murphree, and Ronnie Adcock serving as pallbearers. The family would also like to honor the staff at the Carriage House Inn, Shelbyville, for their excellent care and loving support.


Visitation with the family will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2103, at Lawrence Funeral Home, 203 S Horton Pkwy, Chapel Hill, TN 37034.
