Mr. Urban Samuel Scales, age 87, also known as the “Mayor of Kirkland”, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 in Franklin, Tennessee. Mr. Scales was born in Detroit, Michigan and was a son of the late Charlie Lavender and Agnes Mae Tosh Scales. He served his Country in the United States Army. For over 50 years, Mr. Scales was the owner and operator of Kirkland Service Center in the Kirkland Community of Williamson County. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Taliaferro Scales, a son, Joe Kelly Scales; and sisters, Mary Agnes Atkins and Dean Sanders.
Mr. Scales is survived by his wife, Vivian Frost Scales, Kirkland Comm.; daughters, Donna Elizabeth Scales, Eagleville, TN, Michelle Walls (Marc) Locke, College Grove, TN, Lori Scales (Jason) Fulghum, Eagleville, TN, Stacey Scales (Stanley) Robinson, Eagleville, TN.; brother, Charles (Katie) Scales, Kirkland Comm.; grandchildren, Jacob Edmonson, Jessica Edmonson, Meredith Locke (Lee) Daniel, Molly Locke, Briley Fulghum (Isaac Lovvorn), Devon Fulghum, Ginger Fulghum, Ryker Fulghum; great grandchildren, Graham Daniel, Arlo Lovvorn.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Kate Myers, Rev. Howard Eugene Rucker and Bill Herren officiating. Burial will follow in Triune Cemetery in the Triune Community of Williamson County.
Jacob Edmonson, Devon Fulghum, Marc Locke, Jason Fulghum, Lee Daniel, Isaac Lovvorn, Stanley Robinson and Ryker Fulghum will serve as active pallbearers. The many friends and customers of Mr. Scales will serve as honorary pallbearers.
