William D. "Bill" Purdom

Mr. William Dean “Bill” Purdom, age 88, died Sunday, February 17, 2019.

Mr. Purdom was born in Marshall County and was a son of the late Robert Wallace and Addie Flourine Cathey Purdom. He served his country in the United States Army and was a retired machinist having retired in 2000 from J.D. Machine in Chapel Hill. Mr. Purdom was a long time member and Deacon of Smyrna Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, James David “Jimmy” Purdom, a sister, Rebecca Hunter and a brother, Bobby Purdom.

Mr. Purdom is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol Palmore Purdom, Chapel Hill, TN; daughter, Cathy Lee Purdom, Brentwood, TN; daughter-in-law, Mary Sparkman Purdom, Rover Community; sister, Edith “PeeWee” Woosley, Nashville, TN; brother, Kenny Ervin Purdom, Nolensville, TN; grandsons, Kendall Purdom and Alex Purdom.

Family members will receive friends on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Tim McGehee and Joe Coble officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.

Joe Hill, Barry Hill, Jason Hill, Chuck Jones, Joe Coble and Tommy Howell will serve as active pallbearers. Members of the Adult 4 Sunday School Class and Deacons of Smyrna Baptist will serve as honorary pallbearers.
