Betty Jean Giles

Mrs. Betty Jean Giles, age 88, of Chesterfield, MO, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at her residence.  She was born in Chapel Hill, TN and a daughter of the late Basil Paul and Mattie Audeen Paul Hodge.  Mrs. Betty was of the Baptist faith.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett Owen Giles, a daughter Geraldine Giles, sister, Juanita Faye Fears, and a brother, Hubert Douglas Paul.

Betty loved her family and friends.  Everyone fortunate enough to know her was considered family.  She was a wonderful cook and baker with a long tradition of family dinners and holiday celebrations.  She enjoyed embroidering and quilting, and often made gifts of her needlework.

Betty and Garrett built a beautiful life in Crete, IL in a home where everyone was welcome.  Upon retirement, they returned to Tennessee where they made their home in Pulaski until Garrett’s passing in 2015.  She then moved to Missouri near her daughter and son-in-law, where she made even more wonderful friends, but she never let that stop her from traveling to visit loved ones living in other places.

We loved her bright and generous spirit.  We loved her dearly, and will miss her until the end of our days.

Mrs. Giles is survived by her loving daughter, Deborah (Mark) McCullough of Ballwin, MO; sisters, Vivian Zale of Eldridge, IL, and Cheryl Ann Hargrove of Lewisburg, TN.

The graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill, TN.  Family and friends will gather at the cemetery.
