Dixie Burns

Dixie Ivylyn Burns, age 70, of Rockvale, TN, passed from this life on Monday, September 27, 2021 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Murfreesboro, TN, Dixie was a daughter of the late Charles and Patricia Dougherty Burns. In addition to Dixie’s parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Charles “Chuck” Burns, Jr.

She retired from teaching at Rockvale Elementary with over 31 years of service. Dixie was also a very active member of the Concord United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, sports and traveling.

Dixie is survived by her sisters, Crystal (Larry) Leathers and Patricia (Billy Joe) Johnson, both of Rockvale, TN; nephews, B.J. Johnson, Michael Johnson, Patrick Leathers; great nephew and niece, Eli and Savannah Johnson.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dixie’s caregiver and friend, Ruthan Patient.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Ms. Burns will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis Fink officiating. Interment will follow in Burns Cemetery.
