Doris Barding Moore passed away peacefully at her home on February 22, 2026. She was born on June 12, 1944 in Morristown, TN to Etsel and Willie Mae Barding.
After graduating from Morristown High School in 1962, she attended Nashville Business College where she played basketball from 1962 – 1965. Beside of her Hall of Fame Teammates, Doris won three National Championships, was named an All – American, and toured nationally and internationally in Mexico, Europe and Russia. During a time of global unrest, she was a diplomat of peace and fair competition for the United States.
In 1963, Doris was chosen to represent the USA at the Pan-American games in Sao Paulo, Brazil. At the time this was the pinnacle of athletic competition for women. The Americans won the gold medal in a convincing fashion and returned home World Champions.
Doris was always a humble competitor. Whether it was basketball, board games, checkers, tennis or bowling she wouldn’t end the game until a champion had been crowned and most of the time it was her. She also enjoyed her time on the family farm and tending to her vegetable garden.
Despite her personal accolades, her proudest achievement was her family. She took immense joy in watching her children and grandchildren and cheering them on from the back row of the bleachers. Doris is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jim; her son Brian (Lynsey) Moore of Lexington, NC and her daughter,Traci (Robert) Barrilleaux of Camden, SC. Her legacy also lives on in her 6 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Doris’s life will be planned for a future date to be determined.
