James Rushion Garvin

Mr. James Rushion Garvin, age 85, of Chapel Hill, TN adoringly known by his grandchildren as DeeDee, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 1, 2025. He was a native of Maury County, TN and was a son of the late William Russell Garvin and Cora Elizabeth Hinson Garvin. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Lee Garvin, Hubert T. Garvin, and sister, Dorothy Stephens.

James worked for Lawrence Brothers Plumbing and Electric for 30 years before establishing his own electrical and construction business. James enjoyed singing with his sisters and friends at many different churches in the Columbia area. James also enjoyed gardening and camping with his wife and son. He was an all-around mechanic, carpenter, plumber, electrician and just the man to call if you needed help building or repairing almost anything. He adored his son and grandsons and while creating wonderful memories, he also taught them many skills.

Mr. Garvin is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Louise Garvin of Chapel Hill, TN; son, Bobby (Samantha) Garvin of Chapel Hill, TN; 2 grandsons, Tanner (Kayla) Garvin of Pulaski, TN, Tate (Mallory) Garvin of Chapel Hill, TN; great granddaughter, Taryn Garvin; and sister, Doris Haley Stewart of Columbia, TN.

Visitation with the family will be from 4 PM – 8 PM on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Chatman officiating. Interment will follow at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill, TN.

Todd Haley, Johnnie Stephens, Dale Dillehay, Brian Coleman, Randy Kincaid, and Phillip Copeland will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
