John Newton Greene

John Newton Greene, 64, passed away on October 13, 2025. Born on March 17, 1961, in Cherokee County, SC, he was the son of the late James Nicholas Greene and Ida Geraldine Harris Kurtz. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Greene. He was of the Baptist faith.

John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He took great joy in spending time with his grandson. You could often find them together riding the tractor and being outdoors. He was a fixer of all things and enjoyed being able to help. He loved his family will his whole heart.

John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cathy Lynn Greene of Chapel Hill, TN; a son, Jeremy Greene of Columbia, TN; a grandson, Jett Greene of Columbia, TN; brothers, Joseph Greene and Jeffrey Greene of North Carolina; sisters, Belinda Greene of South Carolina, and Lori Hester of North Carolina.

A Celebration of Life for John will take place October 23, 2025, at Lawrence Funeral Home from 5PM until 7PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
