John “Johnny” Gary Brown Sr., a cherished member of our community, age 78, journeyed to the heavens on April 22, 2024, at Creekside Assisted Living. Born and raised in the embracing community of Rockvale, in Rutherford County, his kind-hearted nature filled our lives with inspiration and warmth.

The beloved son of the late Howard and Alene Brown, Johnny always carried on their legacy of hard work and love for family and friends. His brother, Howard Brown Jr., predeceased him, and we trust they are reunited in their eternal home. Survived by his sisters, Carol (Tom) Millard and Sandy (David) Schlichter.

Johnny leaves behind a legacy of love in the hearts of his adored children, son, John Gary Brown Jr of Unionville, daughters Vicky (Todd) Pope of Murfreesboro, and Tiffany (Jay) Cunningham of Rockvale. His life’s joys his grandchildren, Joshua Brown, Morgan Cunningham, Ryan Brown, Shelby Brown, Jesika Pope and Cloie Pope, will miss their loving Pawpaw. His great-grandchildren, especially little John Boy and the others, will remember his captivating stories of life filled with wisdom and humor.

Joining the workforce as a diesel mechanic for Roadway Express in 1979, Johnny remained a dedicated employee until his retirement in 2003. His skill was unmatched, his work ethic enviable. He was more than a mechanic. He was a friend and a mentor to his friends and colleagues.

Johnny’s dedication extended beyond his professional life. A 50 year member of Mars Hill Lodge #129, he ascended to the prestigious rank of Master Mason, leading by example and inspiring generations. His commitment was evident in his active membership of Murfreesboro Commandry No. 10 Knights Templar, Murfreesboro Council #115, and his pride in being a 50 year member of Pythagoras Charter #150.

A mentor to many, a father figure to the community and a friend beyond measure, Johnny’s departure leaves a void that cannot be filled. His respectful presence, loving attitude and infectious laughter will be missed but never forgotten.

The honorable pallbearers, Jay Cunningham, Keith Fann, Cody Fann, Josh Brown, Don Hill and Josh Pope will join us in bidding farewell to our beloved Johnny.

We invite you to join us in honoring Johnny’s life at Lawrence Funeral Home, Friday, April 26, 2024 from 4pm – 8pm with a Masonic Service at  6pm.  The Funeral Service will be at 10 am, Saturday, Apr. 27, 2024 at Lawrence Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Carlton Cemetery in Rockvale.

Guided by his love, enriched by his wisdom, strengthened by his guidance, may we continue to carry his name and legacy forward with pride. Rest in peace, “Johnny”. Your memory lives on. Forever and always.
