Mikel Warren
Decker
Nov 13, 1945 — May 15, 2026
Mikel Warren Decker
“Here’s the deal!”
Mikel was born in Lovell, Wyoming, on November 13, 1945, and lived most of his life in Worland and Casper, Wyoming. He was a true son of the West who lived life loyal, faithful, thankful, and — above all — happy, happy, happy.
Mike grew up working alongside his family on several ranches, with a short single horse race “rodeo” career along the way. He went on to work in construction for his brother and mentor, Roy, in Worland before starting his own construction company in 1971. By the late ’70s, he had launched a roustabout and hotshot trucking business in Worland. Over the years, Mike helped countless people get their own start in the oil and gas industry — a legacy of generosity he carried his whole life. He also proudly served as a gunner in the Wyoming National Guard, beginning in 1965.
On November 20, 1965, Mike married the love of his life, Gayle Hunt. Together, they built a marriage that lasted 60 years. Mike was endlessly proud of Mama Gayle and the family they built.
He was a man of routine with a nickname for everything and everyone. Mike loved to “hold court,” and while he appreciated a good joke, what he loved most was making other people laugh. He was King of the “Slide Job”, whose favorite sayings became family legend — “44,” “I guess I’m in the barrel,” “no savvy,” “boom gone,” and his trademark “Adios.” If you were in his club, you were in his club, and that meant something. Mike was a true force to be reckoned with.
Mike loved the simple and steady: mowing his lawn, hunting, fishing, NASCAR, and — most of all — his family. He cherished his friends and treasured every one of them. None was bigger than Jim “Coach” King, who was closer than a brother.
Mike is survived by his bride of 60 years, Gayle; his children, Brenda, Ronda (Gary), Danny (Sadinia), and Amanda (Ryan); 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and his brothers Bill and Dennis Decker and sister Trudy Gail.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Floyd; his sisters Lucille, Dorthea, Dixie, and Patti; his brothers Roy, Don, and Rickey; his beloved grandson Austin; and his close friend James “Red” McKendree.
Mike was called home to his Heavenly Father, surrounded by family at his home in Rover, Tennessee, on May 15, 2026.
A private memorial was held in one of Mike's favorite places on earth, outside Livingston, Alabama, at the King’s Family Lakes with some of his closest friends and family.
“That’s how I roll, end of story!”
