Penny Sledge Barnes

Penny Lee Sledge Barnes age 57 of Unionville, TN passed away September 23, 2026 after a battle with cancer and many related illnesses.

Penny was born January 8, 1969 in Franklin, TN, to Thomas Earl Sledge and Linda Mayfield Sledge, the baby of four. She was a graduate of Page High School in 1987, where she met the love of her life, Eddie. They dated for four years and were married March 18, 1989 in a quiet little ceremony in Gatlinburg. In 1997, they moved to the little town of Unionville, TN, where she met many new people and great friends. Penny was a member of New Vision Baptist Church in Unionville, TN. She loved her community and the people in it. She was always there to support any and all events, sports, benefits, and all things. A loyal Viqueens fan, whether it was her kids playing or not. She loved them all and enjoyed supporting them. She also loved gardening, cooking, baking cakes, camping, boating, taking trips, but riding that Harley with Eddie was what she loved most as far as adventure.

What she loved most in this world was her family. She devoted her life to her loving husband, kids, and being called Lulu to her precious granddaughters. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt and sister in-law. She loved all the kids as her own.

Penny is preceded in death by her father, Earl Sledge; brother Mike Sledge; grandparents, Clifton & Lorene Sledge; Jidus and Virginia Mayfield; mother & father-in-law, Joyce & William Barnes and sister-in-law, Lynn Turman.

She is survived by her loving husband, Eddie Barnes; children, Trey (Tori) Barnes and Davie Barnes; 5 granddaughters, Braelyn, Ella, Holland, Ada, and baby Lydia; mother Linda Sledge King; sisters, Lisa (Lowell) Burke, Tammy (Miller Culbertson) Bowling; sister/brothers-in-law Larry & Andrea Barnes, and Pattie & Ronnie Barnes; many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; special friends, Vonda Hazelwood, Beth Taylor, Cathy Demonbreum, Heather Mitchell, Carla Ralston, and many more.

Visitation with the Barnes family will be held 3-8:00PM Monday September 28, 2026 and from 10:00AM-12 Noon on Tuesday September 29, 2026 with funeral services being held 12:00 Noon at Lawrence Funeral Home. Dan Reed will be officiating. Interment will follow at College Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Will Burke, Cody Burke, John Bowling, Clint Crowell, Tim Demonbreum and Austin Burke. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nikki Mitchell Foundation or New Vision Baptist Church
