Virgina Sue Harwell, age 85, of Shelbyville, TN, formerly of Lewisburg, TN passed away August 23, 2026. Sue was born February 23, 1941 to the late Edmond Rice Phifer and Mildred Cathy Davis Phifer in Farmington, TN. Sue was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Gus Harwell, and her siblings, Calvin Phifer, Elizabeth Woodard, Junior Phifer, PeeWee Phifer, Betty Clay, Butch Phifer, and Dot Parsons.

Sue loved her family dearly. She loved spending time with them and being active. You could find Sue in the garden. When not in the garden, she was attending her grandchildren’s activities. You could also find her singing and watching her favorite shows The Walton’s, Little House on the Prairie, and Bonanza, and Heartland. Sue brought joy, peace, and comfort to her family and will be dearly missed.

Sue is survived by her son, Tim (Kathy) Harwell; 4 grandchildren, Alix (Andrew) Harwell Thompson, Arin (Franklin) Harwell Calderwell, Andi Harwell; 6 Great Grandchildren, Silas, Calvin, Aiden, Keziah, Ashlen Joe, and Josephine; siblings, Bill Phifer, Linda Shaddy, and Jack Phifer; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation with the Harwell family will be Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 4PM until 7PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Funeral Service on August 27, 2026. The Funeral Service will be August 27, 2026, in the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home at 11AM with Joe Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Hopper Cemetery.
