Antonio S. Avelar

Mr. Antonio S. Avelar, age 88, of Chapel Hill, TN, formerly of California, died on Monday, January 18, 2021 at his residence.  He was born in Flores, Azores and was the son of the late Antonio G. Avelar and Filomena G. Freitas Avelar.  Mr. Tony was a member of the Catholic/Christian Church and he was a contract painter.

Mr. Avelar was involved and volunteered with the LUSO-American Organization.  He enjoyed weekend barbeques with his family and his vegetable gardens.  Tony really loved creating handcrafted boats and ships from pieces of wood.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 10 brothers and sisters.

Mr. Avelar is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mrs. Fatima Marie Avelar of Chapel Hill, TN; his son, David (Cindy) Avelar of Chapel Hill, TN; grandson, David (Sheree’) Avelar, II, of Chapel Hill, TN; granddaughter, Danielle (Steven) Fortner of Spring Hill, TN; 3 great grandchildren, Jenna Grace Fortner, David Anthony Avelar, III, Joshua David Fortner; future great grandchild, expected in Feb. 2021, Paisley Rose Avelar.

The graveside service will be on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 2 PM at Swanson Cemetery with Jamie Pratt officiating.  Interment will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill, TN.
