John Edward Turner

Eagleville, TN

Mr. John Edward Turner, age 88, of Eagleville, TN died on Sunday, January 10, 2021 in Smyrna, TN.  He was native of Rutherford County, TN and a son of the late John Robert Turner and Clara Carmaine Smotherman Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Betsy Boyce Malone, a sister, Robbie Carmaine Turner Hall, a brother, Willard Urban Turner, and other family members.

Mr. Turner was a lifelong farmer of more than 70 years and owner of Eagleville Mini-Storage.  John Edward was a member of Rocky Glade Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he has served as a deacon and elder.  He was an avid Civil War collector and enthusiast, earning many awards for his collections, and co-author of the novel, Snake Buckles.  Mr. Turner had a favorite saying “I’ve never worked a day in my life!”

John Edward is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mrs. Judy R. Turner of Eagleville, TN; children, Shirley (Ken) Craddock of Woodbury, TN, Elaine Shapcott Tucker of Unionville, TN, and Janet (Tony) Tucker of Eagleville, TN; brother, Lanny Turner of Eagleville, TN; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.

Due to the current health crisis, the family will have a private service with burial at Rocky Glade Cemetery.

Kurtis Tucker, Eric Wilkerson, John Shapcott, Kevin Boyce, Chris Smith, and James Baird will serve as pallbearers.
