Mary Lou Phelan

Mrs. Mary Lou Phelan, age 94, of Lewisburg, TN, died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 in Columbia, TN. Born in Tampa, FL, Mary Lou was a daughter of the late Louis F. and Mary Bell Zora Laurence Baugh. Mrs. Phelan was a school teacher with over 40 years in education. Mary Lou also taught for the Child Evangelist Fellowship for more than 50 years. She was known for her teaching using the wordless book to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Mrs. Phelan was a member of The Gospel Chapel in Nashville, TN where she taught Sunday school. In addition to her parents, Mary Lou is preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

In her spare time, she enjoyed going to Horton Haven Christian Camp and watching children play. She loved irises, her water aerobics class, riding the golf cart, watching sunsets, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Phelan is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, John Phelan. Sr. of Lewisburg, TN; children, Jay (Dawn) Phelan of Farmington, MN, Grace (Mike) Gilmore of Lakeland, FL, Matthew (Wendy) Phelan of Lewisburg, TN; grandchildren, Bryan (Katrina) Phelan, Andrew Phelan, Jennifer (Chad) Lauze, Joshua (Christy) Gilmore, Justin (Claire) Phelan, Holly (Darin) Cavallo, Nathan (Gisel) Phelan; 10 and counting great-grandchildren; dear sister-in-law, Margie Grizzard, and the fellowship of believers at The Gospel Chapel.

The family will receive friends Saturday August 28, 2021 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at The Gospel Chapel, 7305 Sonya Drive, Nashville, TN 37209.   Funeral Services for Mrs. Phelan will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM at The Gospel Chapel with Dr. John Phelan and Matthew Phelan officiating.  The interment will be private. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
