Mr. Melvin Haskins, age 84, of Davenport, Florida, died Saturday morning, June 5, 2021 in Auburndale, Florida.

Mr. Haskins was born in Bedford County and was a son of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Sarah Rebecca Molder Haskins. He was a retired truck driver, a member of the Baptist faith and was a Mason and member of the Shriner’s organization. In addition to his parents, Mr. Haskins was also preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Beverly Haskins, who died in 1990; a son, David Jeffrey Haskins, Sr.; grandson, David Haskins Jr.; and brothers, W.J. Haskins, Harold Haskins and Hoyte Haskins.

Mr. Haskins is survived by his wife of 30 years, Colette Haskins, Davenport, FL; daughter, Bridgett (James) Kilyanek, Taylor, MI; step-sons, Thomas Ulm, Davenport, FL, Robert (Mary) Ulm, Taylor, MI; grandchildren, Bethany (Travis) Alexander, Emily Mullins, Naomi Haskins.

Family members will receive friends on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 11:00 am until 2:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.act.alz.org/donate.
