Sara Pickett - Layton

Mrs. Sara Griffin Pickett-Layton, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at her home in Lewisburg, TN. Mrs. Layton was born in Marshall County and was a daughter of the late Amon and Ruthie Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Bobby Griffin, Bill Griffin, Roy Griffin, Gilbert Griffin and Lular Clifford.

She obtained her GED and worked many years for Genesco, Inc. in Lewisburg until it’s closure. Afterwards, she ventured on to be a business owner. During her time working with County Wide Tree Service, she was known to many in the Community as “the tree lady”.

Mrs. Sara was a member of Lewisburg United Methodist Chapel, Order of the Eastern Star, Lewisburg Chapter # 318 as well as the Grand Chapter of Tennessee Order of the Eastern Star.

She lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with friends and family, participating in community services, and shopping.

Mrs. Layton is survived by her children, Wayne (Cat) Pickett, Lewisburg, TN, Cathy (Kerry) Reed, Huntsville, AL, Sandra (James) Long, Lewisburg, TN, Donna (Ben) Haynes, Chapel Hill, TN; sister, Carrel (David) Farler, Belfast, TN; grandchildren, Wendy Spivey, Zach Wentzel, Misty Spivey, Jessica Reed-Wallace, Zeke Wentzel and Joseph Haynes; twelve great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill with Rev. Paul Guffey officiating. There will be no visitation prior to graveside services. Burial will immediately follow in Swanson Cemetery.

Kerry Reed, John Wallace, Darryl Henry, Kelton Spivey, Zeke Wentzel and Elijah Wentzel will serve as pallbearers.

In light of the present health crisis, everyone attending the graveside services is asked to please wear a face mask and observe social distancing guidelines.
