Walter Douglas "Doug" Batten

Mr. Walter Douglas “Doug” Batten, age 81, of the Wheel Community in Bedford County, TN died on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at his residence.  He was born in Marshall County, TN to the late Walter Allen Batten and Lula Pearl Cherry Batten.  Doug was a lifelong farmer and retired from Eaton Corp. in Shelbyville, TN after 33 years of service.  He was a member of the Baptist faith and proudly served our country in the United States Army.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” Wayne Batten, and a son-in-law, Johnny Foster.

Mr. Batten is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Roberta Hicks Batten of the Wheel Community; children, Linda Batten (Joe) Tate of the Flat Creek Community of Bedford County, TN, Shelia Batten Foster of Shelbyville, TN, and Sherry Batten of the Wheel Community; sisters, Nancy Weddington of the Flat Creek Community of Bedford County, TN, and Betty Spence of Shelbyville, TN; brother, William Dennis (Betty Jo) Batten of the Wheel Community; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family and friends will be from 5 PM until 7 PM on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Lawrence Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 24, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Hopper Cemetery near Chapel Hill, TN.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
